Presenting ITF Radix in Spain and Poland

Exploring the Core of ITF Radix: “Chon Ji Tul, a Complete Fighting System”

By Roy Rolstad

As I prepare for the ITF Elite Stage and Competition in Spain and the upcoming seminar in Poland, I am both honored and excited to present ITF Radix to a diverse and skilled audience of martial artists. The heart of my presentation will focus on a concept that I believe is fundamental to understanding Taekwon-Do: “Chon Ji Tul, a Complete Fighting System.”

What is ITF Radix?

ITF Radix is a system designed to deepen the understanding and application of Taekwon-Do patterns (tuls). It emphasizes practical application, focusing on the martial art’s core techniques and their utility in real-world scenarios. Central to this is the exploration of Chon Ji Tul, which I consider the most critical pattern for mastering Taekwon-Do.

The Significance of Chon Ji Tul

At first glance, Chon Ji Tul may appear simplistic, consisting of only three techniques and two stances. However, within its simplicity lies profound depth. Chon Ji Tul is not merely a sequence of movements but an organized system for initiating and concluding a fight. It encapsulates the essence of Taekwon-Do, teaching practitioners how to effectively utilize foundational techniques in various combat situations.

Why is Chon Ji Tul a Complete Fighting System?

A complete fighting system must encompass all necessary components to navigate the dynamics of a fight, from start to finish. Chon Ji Tul offers this by providing a structured approach to combat. Despite its limited number of techniques, it teaches essential principles such as:

Balance and Stability: The two stances in Chon Ji Tul emphasize the importance of maintaining balance, a critical factor in both offense and defense.

Efficiency of Movement: The three techniques are designed to be executed with precision and minimal wasted energy, embodying the principle of economy of motion.

Versatility and Adaptability: Understanding Chon Ji Tul enables practitioners to adapt the basic techniques to various combat scenarios, making it a versatile tool in any fighter’s arsenal.

Presenting Chon Ji Tul to Europe’s Finest

Presenting this concept at the ITF Elite Stage and Competition, organized by Grandmaster Wim Bos and the Spanish ITF, is a significant milestone. The event gathers Europe’s top Taekwon-Do masters and competitors, offering a platform to showcase the depth and practicality of ITF Radix. Following this, I will conduct a two-day seminar in Poland, organized by Łukasz Grygiel and The Black Belt Project. Poland, known for its strong presence in ITF Taekwon-Do, presents an incredible opportunity to engage with some of the most talented martial artists.

Conclusion

I am thrilled to bring the concept of “Chon Ji Tul, a Complete Fighting System” to these prestigious events. It is my hope that through ITF Radix, practitioners will gain a deeper appreciation for the fundamental patterns of Taekwon-Do and their practical applications. Understanding Chon Ji Tul is not just about mastering a pattern; it is about grasping the essence of Taekwon-Do itself.

I look forward to sharing this journey with the participants in Spain and Poland, and I am eager to witness how this understanding of Chon Ji Tul will enhance their practice and perspective on Taekwon-Do.
